When Charlie Cafazza and Dan Ellis decided to start a company together, they knew they wanted to combine their individual experiences and expertise to disrupt an industry. It was Charlie’s experience as an auditor, controller, and VP of Finance that showed him the reality of background checks and prompted the two to start ClearChecks, a company that helps people run background checks quickly, easily, and compliantly.

“In my experience prior to founding ClearChecks, background checks were always a black box,” explains Charlie. “Dan’s bread and butter were data, and my passion was bringing transparency and a better experience to background screening—ClearChecks was the best path for us.”

Challenge

At ClearChecks, the team’s goal is to acquire and put relevant data in front of customers. It differentiates itself because it’s nimble and tech-savvy, using available technology and tooling to deliver results to its customers faster and more reliably than its competitors. Historically, they relied on the industry’s go-to data providers but they’re always on the lookout for new technologies.

Perhaps the biggest pain that ClearChecks felt was its customers’ pain.

“The background check experience is broken because as a customer—an applicant, candidate, or person who is being checked—isn’t the one servicing their own data,” Charlie explains. “We want to empower our customers through self-service and eliminate the back-and-forth that currently happens just to get an accurate picture of them." 

Solution

ClearChecks was one of Truv’s earliest customers. As their business has grown, so has their relationship with Truv. Charlie and Dan believe that trends in technology, accuracy, and personal sovereignty make Truv the future of verifications. 

“We’re seeing a renewed focus on the sovereignty of personal data that’s only going to increase as consumers understand more about how their data is used, sold, or protected. Also, as the workforce continues to age, people will be more and more comfortable with technology and expect better experiences. Truv will become ubiquitous for verifications,” said Charlie.

Since ClearChecks started working with Truv in 2021, it’s seen substantial efficiency gains and improved coverage and conversion rates.
